To bed, to sleep, to dreams, to death,
The keeper of the mortal breath;
The body rests, the soul reclines,
The mind is locked up tight inside
With chains of stone and chains of light,
Forbidding me this final flight
Through endless night and stormy seas,
Where I can be alone and free.

My feathered wings, they seem to sing
And hope eternal seems to spring
As I travel through this lightless land
Of sapphire waters and opal sands,
Still tied to all that I hold dear
Despite their placements, far and near.
Come daytimes bright sun, I must fly,
Return to the life I left behind.

Forgetting nighttimes distant travels,
Ropes that bind me fast unravel,
Leaving marks, no recollection
Of my nightly wand'ring directions.
Face the day, the tension mounting,
Lack of reason, heart is pounding.
Another day has come and gone;
But what to say 'cept life goes on?
