Literature Text

With trembling hands we search around,
Our fingers probing broken ground
For crumbs of our immortal soul
That we've forsaken as our toll
For crossing to the promised land
Across the sea of arid sand
And 'neath a bridge of ocean blue
Where we did witness something true.

A darkness clusters all around,
It muffles all but direst sound
And chills us all down to the bone
As we do stumble o'er the stone.
We lost our way so long ago,
No way to head amidst the snow
And static whine that girds our mind
And bids us to leave all behind.

And in the darkness burns a light
That helps illuminate the plight
That we do find ourselves within,
The obsidian that marks our sin
Is open now and on display
And there's no time to get away
From those we love and those we fear
For that final edge is just too near.

On bended knee, a prayer, a light
To guide us as we onward fight
To rise above a ruby tide
And find a safer place to hide
From the burning brand that lashes out
And causes us, as one, to shout
In pain and fear, our eyes do weep
For darkness, light, the fire, sleep.

A wavering portal does unfold
And what's beyond does stand untold,
And though we fear with broken hearts,
We have no control o'er the parts
That we do play, and so rush in
With full fledged knowledge that we can't win.
A feathered wing does gently beat
Above the garden soft and neat.

A gentle sun does softly glow.
We came through fire, we came through snow.
We sinned in life, but now are free
To be the ones we wish to be.
No fear or death may touch this land
Protected by God's steady hand.
The water given after drought,
We'd not know paradise 'fore going without.
One Hundred and Eiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighty! Who knew.... and only 20 left to go for 200 @.@;;;;;

Also, a slight apology for A World Forsaken (even though it's funny, and meant as satire), but I like it for its own.

As always, comments and critique welcome.

A beautifully written poem. And how true it is, that "We'd not know paradise 'fore going without."
